Pilkington Point & Millennium Point ( Fantastic Views )

Next time you visit Bandarawela, Poonagala or Koslanda take time to treat yourself to a fantastic views of the Eastern & Southern plains. Some of the ‘best views’ you will ever experience. If you are interested, read on. It’s quite easy to get there. And always remeber to take a good camera with you.

You can start from either Bandarawela or Koslanda. I will give directions from Bandarawela. That’s where I started from. If you are travelling by bus, this is the easiest route.

From the Bandarawela town take a bus that goes to Poonagala. (The first bus leaves at 6.20 a.m. and will cost you Rs.33/-.) Remember that if you sit on the left side of the bus, you will be able to enjoy the scenery most of the way. Ask the conductor to drop you at the junction / turn off where the road to Koslanda begins. It’s easily identifiable as the ‘Poonagala’ name board is placed at this junction. The approximate distance to this place from Bandarawela is 21km.

Read the whole article about fantastic views on "Lakdasun Forum". And special Thanks to Priyanjan de Silva.

Ranweli Holiday Village - Waikkal

Ranweli’s architecture blends with the unique and rich natural environment. The serene and idyllic location has been fully utilized in the layout of the land, featuring indigenous flora and fauna, and borders the wide sandy beach on one side, and the river on the other.
The land was originally a coconut plantation surrounded by wetlands mainly mangroves. In conceptualizing Ranweli, the architects used the spacing of the rows of the coconut trees (known as the coconut grid by Agriculturists) as the discipline for the design. The bungalows, central areas and facilities were built by removing the minimum number of coconut trees. For each bungalow constructed, only one tree was removed and the tree trunks were used to construct the pillars.
The connecting walkways open out into beautifully tended palm gardens leading to the heart of the resort. Architecturally and aesthetically the construction and furnishing of the village blends western standards of comfort and with the traditions of indigenous Sri Lankan culture

Ranweli’s restaurant, offers a delicious buffet and a' la carte Sri Lankan and International cuisine. Vegetarian meals are available on request and in all buffets.
In addition to the main restaurant, a pavilion bar by the swimming pool, constructed with eco-friendly and biodegradable material, provides snacks and beverages. This is a favourite spot among the guests to enjoy the ambiance and sunset. Also a small fruit stall called the "Palathuru Masse" located next to the main bar, serves fresh fruit juices and herbal drinks of medicinal value.

Whenever possible fresh produce is procured from the local community. We also have our own organic vegetable plots.
Dining under the Mangroves
This unique dining experience in a secluded forested environment is a must for all nature lovers. The venue is constructed using local materials including jungle poles and dry leaves of the Palmyrah while the furniture has been made with branches of fallen trees and tree trunks. The restaurant stands on stilts which provides a wonderful view of the flowing river and mangroves. Dinner is under the stars with added lighting provided by kerosene lanterns.
Ferry Dinner
This romantic ferry cruise with special dinner is served on a beautifully decorated ferry. The ferry will glide along the scenic river bordering the resort with a personal butler, a chef and a ferryman in attendance to meet all your dining needs. The Guests can select any one of the three specially designed menus. The menus offer a five course dinner with a choice of seafood or Sri Lankan/Eastern dishes or meat, as the main course.

Tea and coffee will be served at the end of the meal. A bottle of sparkling wine is served to complement the dinner.

In order to preserve the tranquility and ambiance of the property, Ranweli offers only soft-impact sports and games facilities to our guests.

Surfing at Arugam Bay

Arugam Bay is situated on the Indian Ocean in the dry zone of Sri Lanka's South-East coast. The Bay is located 220 km due East of Colombo. It is a popular surfing and tourist destination. Many of the buildings were destroyed in the 2004 tsunami.Due to its popularity among tourists thearea has managed a slow recovery by private initiatives only. The main road through town has not been repaved yet.By April,2008 no help has been received from any official source or International organizations.
An exception is uncoordinated support for fishing folk as well as many school rebuilding programs, sadly resulting in a continuation to provide only separatist schools for each Community.
Arugam Bay is far away! 7 hours drive from Colombo, it has until fairly recently only attracted a tthts. There are now almost dayly flights to Ampara with Sri Lankan Airlines sea planes. They are presntly applying for a licence to land on Pottuvil Lagoon. The ISA (International Surfing Association) staged Arugam Bay's first international surfing competition in the summer of 2004, and despite the shocking destruction of the Tsunami, returned again in 2005 to give the battered local economy a boost.
2005 was a difficult year for Arugam Bay as it was one of the worst hit areas of the country. The post Tsunami recovery has by and large been very quick despite the remoteness of the area. many NGO's and private organisations like ourselves (LankaRealAid) have help rebuild the area and some of the guest houses are now much better than before the wave. Both north and south of Arugam Bay there are undoubtedly some of the most beautiful beaches in the whole of Sri Lanka.

Tintagel Colombo - Colombo

Tintagel is a unique and private hotel, situated in the heart of Colombo’s most elite neighbourhood. Offering 10 individually designed suites with all modern amenities and services, Tintagel is housed in a stunning heritage structure of national importance that was previously home to three of Sri Lanka’s political leaders.
In the uptight neighbourhoods of Rosmeald Place, the Tintagel Colombo hotel is like a heritage of Sri Lanka’s modern history. Old presidential refuge, this majestic establishment is hiding an exotic and timeless setting behind its white walls. In 2005, this national treasure opens a new chapter in its epic adventure thanks to designer Shant Fernando, bringing back within the walls the fast and glory of the old, prestigious and dynastic era.
In the heart of this small haven, high ceilings are smoothly hidden behind in the curves of the arches and immense wooden columns. As the architecture awakes in us some vague desires, the colours (white, ebony and red) give birth to flamboyant combinations. As an inveterate globetrotter, Shant Fernando brings back to life different landscapes of the world through a very eclectic set of furniture. Sofas from Portugal, Flamingo chandeliers, give pureness and serenity to the rooms.
The unavoidable and mythic Alfresco takes you the high point of elegance. In this authentic and stylish restaurant, the visitor can enjoy international and innovative dishes on antique chairs and sparkling trays. In the early hours of the night, the candles will end the darkness from under the parasols pour an unforgettable and romantic dinner.

Casa Colombo - Bambalapitiya

A place of trendy version of colonial exotism, in the heart of Bambalapitiya town. Although our eyes are astonished by the large iron gate in front of Galle Road, it is only the shield of the most hip hotel of Colombo. Once destined to destruction, the Casa Colombo is back to its days of glory thanks to its creative and genius owner Lalin Jinasena. Eccentric and staggering, this 2-century-old Moresque castle brings back to life the charms of past times in a custom-made art deco. A tonic alternative to the city’s hassle, an artisanal jewel made in Sri Lanka.'
Padded in the captivating white walls, the army of carved arks and moulded ceiling rest like ultimate witnesses of ancient times. In each corner, colonial antiquities rival with the minimalism of iron and wooden furniture. And consequently, what you have is a flamboyant and upscale design worthy of Austin Power’s psychedelic universe, a mix of profusion, groovy colours and neon lightings. In the retro-chic rooms, your soul finally rests in a haven mounted with silky tints and raw silk curtains.
When you are not in the middle of a motorbike escapade on this lively and coloured island, relax in the shades of the mango trees, reflected by the water from the swimming pool. Under the starlit sky, the ZAZA outdoor tapas restaurant will offer you all the treasures from Asia. You should not miss the opportunity to test your knowledge on teas in a small tour around the exotic world of flavours on the fresh lawn of the T Republique.
Rates: from 71€ for the traveler suite and 177€ for the royal suite.
